USA’94 heroes Ivaylo Yordanov and Boncho Genchev kicked off “FAN CUP” in Gorna Oryahovitsa
Two of the “USA’94 Heroes” gave a start to the football tournament “FAN CUP” in Gorna Oryahovitsa. Hundreds of participants and spectators at the st. “Lokomotiv” welcomed the legendary Ivaylo Yordanov and Boncho Genchev, everyone wanted to take a photo with two of the golden Bulgarian generation. Both have left a significant mark in the local football team, in the national team and in the Lisbon grand Sporting.
Alongside the legends among the dignitaries were also the mayor of the city Eng. Dobromir Dobrev, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, Sports and International Relations Stefcho Alipiev, Chairman of the Leisure Sports Association Anatoly Iliev and others. The festive mood is enhanced by the fact that this year Gorna Oryahovitsa has been designated by ASES Europe as a “European City of Sport”.
“We are glad to see more events like this, more people playing sports in the stadiums and halls. Gorna Oryahovitsa is part of the great chain of competitions and this is happening in the year when we are awarded the title of European City of Sport,” said Mayor Dobrev. Boncho Genchev then gave an emotional welcome to the attendees, while Ivaylo Yordanov wished all the participants good luck with the appeal to enjoy the weekend.
The competition “FAN CUP” brings together the elite amateur teams from the region, which will select two new teams with visas for the grand final in Albena in the autumn. So far, the mini-football tournaments in Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik and Sandanski have determined their finalists. Now the legendary St. “Lokomotiv” in Gorna Oryahovitsa the final scheme for the autumn will be filled with two new teams. Already on the first day in the groups the predictions for very contested matches were fulfilled. Tomorrow, Sunday, the matches continue from 9.30 a.m. with the direct eliminations from the quarterfinals upwards, around 12.00 p.m. the final will start, immediately after that is the awards ceremony and the closing of the Tournament.
Among the partners of the organisers from the “Leisure Sports Association” in the implementation of the project under the Erasmus + programme of the European Union are the European Football Development Network, the European Federation of Mini Football and others.
After Gorna Oryahovitsa this weekend, the chain of amateur tournaments “FAN CUP” continues with regional competitions successively in Montana (29-30 May), Sofia (5-6 June) and Varna (12-13 June). The grand final is scheduled for 13-17 September in Albena.
