This weekend Sofia hosts the penultimate stage of the largest mini-football chain of events in Bulgaria. The FAN CUP tournament brings together elite amateur teams from the capital in the Sportna Sofia Complex, which will deliver the two new winning teams for the grand final in Albena in the autumn.
The series of mini-football competitions started in April in the city of Stara Zagora, then passed through Pazardzhik, Sandanski, Gorna Oryahovitsa, and Montana. The finalists in each city secured participation in an international final tournament, which is scheduled for mid-September by the sea with teams from 10 countries. So far, places for the grand final in Albena have been secured by: E-Dynamics and Sporting from Stara Zagora, Esetra Commerce, and Detoni from Pazardzhik, Veteranite, and El Clásico from Sandanski, Phoenix and Apple from Gorna Oryahovitsa, Magyosnicite and V&K from the tournament in Montana.
Now in Sofia, they will be joined by two more members, the applications promise extremely contested matches. The start of the tournament in the newest Sofia park “Vazrazhdane” will be given by the legendary Dimitar Penev. The draw and the grand opening is this Saturday at exactly 16.00, half an hour later is the start of the matches in the qualifying groups, which will last until 20.00. The eliminations are scheduled for 16.00 o’clock on Sunday and shortly after 19.00, the final will start. Immediately after that is the awarding and closing of the tournament.
